State Geological Survey
Almost all of the 50 states (and Puerto Rico) have an agency that deals with geological hazards and resources within its bounds. Some have more than one (e.g., one for petroleum resources, one for general geology, and one for water resources), and some have delegated the responsibilities to a unit within a state university. Most, but not all of these institutions are connected to the Internet. For all of these agencies, we've included snail mail addresses as well as known e-mail and Internet links.

Global Change Education
A presentation focusing on two curricular initiatives, both contributing to global change education and a systems approach to understanding the Earth.  First is the development of a series of non-credit, co-curricular modules illustrative of global change and the earth system.  The final module will be a capstone during which the student creates a classroom ready activity.  Upon completion the student receives an achievement award for their portfolio.  The target audience for this module and award approach includes both pre-service and in-service teachers.  The second initiative involves the development of a multidisciplinary, issue oriented academic major focused on global environmental change.

Student Programs

Environmental Studies Program, Burlington County Institute of Technology, Medford NJ

This is a four year course of study preparing students for careers and/or further education in the environmental field, with an emphasis on Earth Systems. Students work with direct read-out data having access to both geostationary and polar-orbiting satellite images from satellite receivers. Using a project/problem based learning approach, supported by NASA's Classroom of the Future, students design independent and/or collaborative research problems, or projects that monitor our changing planet using a wide variety of resources.

Students spend 3 hours per day, five days a week, for four years in the program, graduating with not only a High School diploma, but a headstart towards their future gaining significant experiences from unique learning opportunities.
