Seeing into the Heart of a Hurricane

Description:
Using data from NASA's Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission and several other weather satellites that can measure what goes on inside of hurricane cloud formations, scientists are now attempting to determine what causes a hurricane to intensify or weaken, and to much more accurately predict how intense a storm will be as much as a day in advance. NASA's Earth Observatory web site provides a rich summary of this issue, with links. If the "glossary on" button is selected, key words become hotlinks to definitions.
