Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary - 5-8 Classroom Activities
Description:
Students conduct online background research on the coral
reefs and sea grass habitats of the Florida Keys, and compile brief descriptions
and drawings of each habitat. They study one or two locations within the
sanctuary in depth, and respond to a set of questions about the two habitats,
and about what animal species might live there, and why. Using online resources
that are listed, they write paragraphs answering questions about the specific
value and importance of sanctuary maps, and about global warming and the
impacts it is predicted to have. In groups, they prepare and present "TV
shows" on current impacts of global warming or on hypothesized impacts
of future global warming. Their shows may include interviews, drawings,
charts, and other resources.
