This module introduces and defines El Niño and covers the following topic areas: the '97-'98 event; an introduction to upwelling, the thermocline, and how they impact local sea life populations; non-El Niño years; conditions that lead to an El Niño event and how El Niño influences upwelling processes, tropical rainfall and local fish populations; El Niño visualized through sea surface temperature anomaly plots; impacts on worldwide weather; economic impacts; detection and prediction methods and resources.
