Written as a narrative, this website shows teachers how to introduce concepts of soil science to young students. It is linked to several different exercises, such as one called, "How Much Soil Is There?" in which students cut away portions of an apple to see how little soil there actually is, that human beings depend on in so many different ways. It is part of the Soil Science Education Home Page, at: http://ltpwww.gsfc.nasa.gov/globe/index.htm which provides other resources, such as a soil gallery and ideas for science fair projects.
