Digital Images: From Satellites to the Internet
Description:
In four activities and a "de-briefing" over a one-week
period, students create digital images from binary data sets, and
design information transfer systems. They use a digital camera to put
pictures on a computer; observe magnified digital images; use graph
paper to create digital information; create an information transfer
protocol; design encrypted messages or pictures; as a team, decode a
satellite image from space; and discuss ways to improve digital image
resolution and accelerate information exchange.
Scientific background sections, student worksheets, and
assessment rubrics are provided.
