Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary - K-4 Classroom Activities
Description:
In acitvities for grades K-4, students label some of the
Channel Islands and map ocean temperatures in the Channel Islands Sanctuary.
They then map the population distributions of fish species preferring warmer
temperatures and species preferring colder temperatures, and write explanations
of the distributions they see. They examine stories and pictures about human
habitation in the Channel Islands, and map some shipwrecks there. They discuss
biological and cultural reasons for protecting the waters of the Channel Islands,
and delineate an area in their own geographic locality that they believe should
be protected, and explain why in writing.
