Through funding from NASAís Earth Science Enterprise, Howard University is hosting a conference March 20-22, 2000 in Washington, DC entitled: "Celebrating 20th Century Pioneers in the Atmospheric Sciences: Examining 21st Century Challenges and
Opportunities."
The purpose of this conference/workshop is to:
-
honor the accomplishments of the few minorities in this field;
-
assess minority status through discussions with colleagues, students,
and representatives from professional societies, the private sector,
and federal funding agencies; and
-
formulate a strategy for successful production of the next generation
of minority atmospheric scientists.
Full travel awards are available for up to 70 students and postdocs.
Attendance is encouraged for both students and professionals working
in fields related to the atmospheric sciences, including: broadcast
meteorology, academic research, government, and private
sector.
