Time and Cycles
Description:
In this activity straws are used to simulate tree-ring core samples. Using marked straws to simulate tree-ring core samples, students work in groups to reconstruct a 50 year climatic history. Students record this chronology on a 3 meter time line designed to
highlight significant social, personal, and scientific events
covering the same period. Background information for teachers relates
the activity to four themes: time, change, cycles, and the Earth as
home. A teacher reading list is provided. Part of a packet of lesson plans on global change produced by the US Geological Survey.
