Ocean Expeditions: El Niņo

Description:
Ocean Expeditions is a set of virtual research expeditions in which students use satellite observations of the Earth and data from climate models to study the Earth as a system of interacting components. In Ocean Expeditions, students become the crew of the R.V. Glomar, a realistically rendered three-dimensional research ship. Quicktime VR technology is used to move about the ship as the students voyage over the world's oceans. They study global phenomena such as El Niņo and Monsoons, which profoundly affect the Earth's climate and life. By participating in an authentic scientific project, students learn about both the Earth and the methodology of science.
